IEU at the European Evaluation Society Biennial Conference 2026

The Independent Evaluation Unit (IEU) of the Green Climate Fund will participate in the European Evaluation Society (EES) Biennial Conference 2026 in Lille, France, sharing evidence from impact evaluations in Madagascar and Rwanda.

Theory-based approaches in mixed-methods impact evaluation

Michell Dong will join the EES Thematic Working Group on Methods & Designs (TWG6) panel, “Theory-based approaches in mixed-methods impact evaluations to provide credible evidence and learning for societal change.”

Her presentation, “Learning from real-time impact evaluations: Evidence from a mixed-methods evaluation in Madagascar,” draws on a theory-based mixed-methods impact evaluation of a climate adaptation and forest conservation programme in Madagascar. The session will examine how theory-based approaches can strengthen the credibility, use and learning value of mixed-methods impact evaluation.
The panel will also feature Gerald Leppert, Alexander Kocks and Dea Tsartsidze.

Climate finance, access, effectiveness and accountability

Marco D’errico will present in Session S9b: Climate Finance, Access, Effectiveness and Accountability.

His paper, “Integrated Climate Adaptation for Smallholder Resilience: Evidence from Northern Rwanda,” draws on evidence from the Green Gicumbi Project in northern Rwanda. Co-authored with Paul Winters and Alvaro Montoya of the University of Notre Dame, the paper examines whether a bundled climate adaptation intervention improved resilience and farmer outcomes, including the adoption of climate-resilient agriculture, food security, dietary diversity, livestock assets and the Climate Resilience Index.
