On Friday, 26 September 2025, the IEU interns Hanna Baek, Jinnan Guo, and Vladislav Gerasimov, together with Evaluation Uptake Specialist Yeonji Kim and Operations and Administrative Assistant Tatiana Kan, visited the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) headquarters in Seoul as part of the IEU Interns’ Day programme. The visit was thoughtfully organized by James Sheppard, Acting Head of Impact and Evaluation at GGGI.

During the visit, the IEU interns were introduced to GGGI’s mission, governance structure and strategic priorities, learning about its unique intergovernmental model and its work with 53 member states and over 270 projects worldwide. Senior staff from the Department of Partnerships, Governance, Communication and Knowledge Sharing highlighted GGGI’s embedded approach within governments and its support for both member- and non-member states to implement green growth projects around the world.

Romain Brillié, Director of the Department of Strategy and Global Initiatives, outlined GGGI’s 2030 strategy. The strategy focuses on helping governments design and implement ambitious environmental policies, building capacity, and reinforcing thematic priorities such as sustainable bioeconomy, gender equality, and poverty reduction. Jason Lee, Deputy Director for Asia, shared insights into GGGI’s partnerships and green investment projects across the region, including climate techno partnerships, electric vehicle initiatives, and rehabilitation projects in Asia. Benjamin Devise, Associate in the Department of Carbon Pricing, discussed GGGI’s role in supporting countries with carbon pricing and transactions, emphasizing environmental integrity under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. The interns also received practical advice on recruitment and career pathways from Juan Miguel Osuna Alarcón, Senior Associate in Human Resources.

The visit concluded with an engaging session led by James Sheppard and other members of the Impact and Evaluation Unit, who presented GGGI’s evaluation framework and shared their experiences in advancing organizational learning and accountability. This segment offered a particularly enriching experience for the IEU interns, as they were able to compare the approaches and focus areas of GGGI’s evaluation team with those of the GCF IEU.

The IEU team extends its sincere appreciation to GGGI for hosting this insightful exchange and to all the speakers who shared their experiences and expertise.

About the IEU Internship Programme:
As part of the broader GCF internship programme, the IEU internship offers young professionals the opportunity to learn and grow by contributing to the development and implementation of evaluations for six months to one year. The IEU’s monthly Interns’ Day Programme allows interns to set aside their regular duties to explore other aspects of the IEU’s work, the GCF, or broader issues in climate change and development.
