IEU hosts three events during GLocal Evaluation Week 2025
The Independent Evaluation Unit (IEU) of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) took part in GLocal Evaluation Week 2025 by organizing three virtual learning sessions that spotlighted recent evaluations, policy influence, and lessons from the field. The events were held as part of the Global Evaluation Initiative’s annual knowledge-sharing platform.
On 3 June, the session “Evaluation to decision-making: How the REDD+ RBP study supported the continuation of a climate finance line at the GCF” highlighted how evidence from the IEU’s special study informed the GCF’s newly adopted policy on REDD+ results-based payments. Speakers included Jeehyun Yoon (Evaluation Specialist, IEU-GCF), Booyoung Jang (Researcher, IEU-GCF), and Martin Dellavedova (Director, SISTME Monitoring & Evaluation). The session was moderated by Andreas Reumann, Head of the IEU.
On 4 June, “Gender inclusion in climate evaluation” brought together evaluators and policy specialists to share real-world experiences and lessons from fieldwork. Presenters Yeonji Kim and Susumu Yoshida (IEU-GCF) were joined by Seblewongel Negussie (Gender and Social Specialist, GCF Secretariat) and Rajib Ghosal (Global Head – Climate, Portfolio, Equality, Save the Children International). Josephine Ngala served as moderator.
On 5 June, the final session, “Evaluating the GCF’s approach to Indigenous Peoples”, focused on the recently published final report of the IEU’s evaluation of the GCF Indigenous Peoples Policy. Genta Konci and Rishabh Moudgill (IEU-GCF) presented the findings, joined by Helen Magata (Executive Director, Tebtebba Foundation; Member, Indigenous Peoples Advisory Group) for a panel discussion moderated by Josephine Ngala.
These sessions provided a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge on the value of evidence in shaping climate action. Each one drew on lived experience, fieldwork, and deep reflection—offering grounded insights for practitioners and decision-makers in climate finance and development.
