Community-based Landscape Management for Enhanced Climate Resilience and Reduction of Deforestation in Critical Watersheds
Community-based Landscape Management for Enhanced Climate Resilience and Reduction of Deforestation in Critical Watersheds
Community-Based Natural Resources Management (CBNRM): This evaluation looks at the impact of decentralized and localized natural resources management system on deforestation and forest degradation. Shifting cultivation, unplanned conversion of forests to agricultural land, overexploitation of fuelwood, extensive free grazing, and forest fires are the major causes of deforestation in Timor-Leste. It is crucial to incentivize changes in traditional land use and farming practices. CBNRM approach seeks the balance of exploitation and conservation of valued ecosystem components to fulfil livelihood and conservation objectives by involving local communities.
