The IEU will lead two sessions of the International Development Evaluation Association (IDEAS) Conference 2022 held from 27 to 29 September. The Online IDEAS Conference 2022 “Power of evaluation: Influencing decision making for a better and more equal world” aims to provide a platform to explore how evaluation can contribute to transformational change, one that recognizes the rights, aspirations of all people, ensures their voices are heard and questions the differential impacts on those who are privileged and those who are not.

Prashanth Kotturi and Martin Prowse of the IEU will present the two following topics:

Wed, 28 September. 4:40 - 6:10 PM CET | 11:30 PM - 1:10 AM KST. Evaluations for climate: experience of the GCF Independent Evaluation Unit on standard setting and capacity needs.

In response to climate change, the actions for resilience and mitigation are relatively slow but the capacities for evaluating these efforts lag further behind, especially at the national and regional levels. In this context, there is an overarching need to establish standards in the discipline of evaluations to enable policymakers to engage with evaluations fruitfully. This session will build on the IEU's contribution to developing the GCF Evaluations Standard and its ongoing Independent Synthesis of the Direct Access in the GCF. In the session, Prashanth Kotturi of the IEU will give an overview of the Unit's findings on the systematic capacity gaps of GCF Direct Access Entities, including in the field of monitoring and evaluation, and reflect on the IEU's capacity-building efforts and the role of the GCF Evaluation Standards within that.

Thurs, 29 September. 4:40 - 6:10 PM CET | 11:30 PM - 1:10 AM KST. IEU evidence gap map on the effectiveness of interventions promoting women’s empowerment.

Women’s empowerment is a key way to tackle gender inequality. Empowerment is an end in itself and also contributes to wider outcomes. By empowering women, individuals become agents of change and can catalyze climate action as well as contribute to meeting strategic SDGs. In this session, Martin Prowse of the IEU will present the findings of the IEU's evidence gap map on interventions for women's empowerment in developing countries which depicted the evidence that exists on the effectiveness of these interventions.
