The IEU will organize and take part in several events at the COP29 taking place in person from 11 to 22 November in Azerbaijan.

The Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is an international climate summit, which is held annually unless the Parties (the countries involved) decide otherwise. At COPs, world leaders gather to work together on solutions to tackle climate change. There are now 198 Parties (197 countries plus the European Union) to the Convention, constituting near universal membership.

Mobilising Private Finance for Gender-responsive Climate Resilient Infrastructure

About this event: This event highlights the proposed Commonwealth Collaborative Network on Gender-Responsive Climate Action as a key vehicle for supporting the mobilisation of private sector engagement in climate finance. The session will explore how this network can bridge knowledge gaps, enhance access to finance, and empower leadership, all of which are essential for driving the adaptation of infrastructure to climate challenges. Through collaborative efforts, the event will demonstrate how targeted investments can scale up efforts to build resilient infrastructure that is both inclusive and adaptive to climate change.

The Role of Indigenous and Local Knowledge Systems in Climate Action: Delivering Together a Resilient Future for All 

Location: Blue Zone, UNFCCC Side Event Room 8 

About this event: This high-level side event will focus on highlighting the role of Indigenous people especially their knowledge, practices, traditions, and other ways of life in achieving low carbon and climate resilient development. The event will seek to amplify their voices and concerns and chart a path forward that is inclusive of Indigenous communities. At this event, a special film will be launched showcasing the Commonwealth’s Indigenous peoples’ heritage, contributions, knowledge, and potential as agents of change on the pathway to a more resilient future. The event is organised by the Commonwealth Secretariat in collaboration with the Governments of Namibia and Seychelles. It will also provide an opportunity for partner countries, agencies, and youth groups to share experiences and lessons learned.
