IEU Head Dr. Jyotsna Puri (Jo) - Keynote speech at GLF Bonn 2018
Speakers at the event included Ada Osakwe, Founder and Chief Executive, Agrolay Ventures; Durreen Shahnaz, Founder and CEO, IIX (Impact Investment Exchange); Sylvia Wisniwski, Managing Director, Finance in Motion; Jane Feehan, Senior Investment Officer, European Investment Bank; and session moderator, Christopher Knowles, Advisory Council Member, Climate Bonds Initiative, OECD Centre for Green Finance Investment.
Jo addressed the importance of understanding bias, benefits and behaviour in the context of better evaluating climate change activities. Her speech also provided examples of how addressing behaviour change may lead to better outcomes in mobilizing public sector finance for public sector goods.
Speakers during the plenary addressed a range of issues:
- Developing innovative financial opportunities and instruments to fund sustainable forest and land management and restoration is a key part of the sustainable landscape recipe, particularly those aimed at smallholders and sustainable value chains.
- Shifting the focus away from grants and donations from governments and philanthropic organizations, and in increasing involvement from the private sector in profitable and productive ways.Identifying practical steps for leading companies, experts and institutions to create new approaches to landscape finance, and trigger the imagination of the audience for how those can be replicated and applied at a large, impacting scale.
