Independent evaluation of the relevance and effectiveness of the GCF’s investments in the African States (AFR2022)

  • Evaluation type Portfolio
  • Status On-going

Although the African continent is not the major contributor to global carbon emissions, climate change is advancing more rapidly in Africa than in many other places around the world. The particularly vulnerable position of the African States is recognized in the GCF’s Governing Instrument, along with the SIDS and the LDCs. This evaluation is part of a larger effort by the IEU to examine the relevance and effectiveness of the GCF’s strategy and investments in this set of vulnerable countries.

This independent evaluation will assess whether the GCF’s approach and investments in the African States have been effective in promoting a paradigm shift towards low-emission and climate-resilient development pathways. The final evaluation report will be submitted to the Board by the end of 2022.
